Ilojo Bar five years later – Webinar

Communicating Heritage

On 11 September 2016 a bulldozer tore down Ilojo Bar, a Brazilian style National Monument on Lagos Island. Exactly five years after this illegal demolition, Legacy The Historical and Environmental Interest Group of Nigeria is organising a webinar in which experts in the field from Nigeria and abroad discuss lessons learnt about how to tell stories of heritage that will engage the public and turn them into genuine stakeholders.

A more inclusive history of Ilojo Bar: presentation by researcher Femke van Zeijl of her findings about Ilojo Bar’s history and heritage

A discussion about communicating heritage to the public with among others:

– Professor Cordelia Osasona of History of Architecture at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife

– Heritage Architect Carla Rabelo Costa of the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute of Brazil IPHAN

– Dr J. Kelechi Ugwuanyi Senior Lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a focus on heritage studies

– Architect Ruqayya Tofa, founder Kano chapter of the International Network For Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism INTBAU
