This book explores the extraordinary careers of architects John Godwin and Gillian Hopwood, who spent much of their professional lives in Nigeria. Featuring over 400 unseen images, the book provides a unique glimpse into Nigeria’s modern history, from the pre-colonial era through independence and the civil war. The book also features a heartening foreword by Ola Uduku, contemporary photographs by Olajide Ayeni, and beautiful graphic designs from Floyd Erol Schulze.
Ben Tosland added: “This recording of architecture, art and history would not have been possible without the project being driven forward by Godwin and Hopwood’s children, Carey and Tony. It is hoped that while it will inevitably look great on coffee tables, it also contributes to the history of Nigeria and provides a recording of two of the country’s unsung architects who have shaped its built environment.”
