A Legacy team represented by the Vice-President and Treasurer were prominently featured at a high-level workshop hosted at the UK Deputy High Commission Lagos on June 23rd, to discuss how to protect and promote railway heritage assets amid the rapid re-development of rail transport in Nigeria.
The meeting featured the Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation Engr. Fidet Okhiria, with the Federal Ministry of Transport represented by Mr Barry Odii, and the Director-General of National Commission for Museums and Monuments represented by the Curator of Lagos Museum Mrs Adeboye. The event followed an initial meeting in late January which outlined the issues and opportunities in developing Nigeria’s rail heritage sector, especially by leveraging links with the sector in the UK, which is a major contributor to the heritage and tourism economy. Thanks are due to the hard-working staff of the UK Deputy High Commission Lagos and especially outgoing Deputy High Commissioner Ben Llewellyn-Jones for hosting the event and fully supporting the organisation and catering. |
