Yesterday marked the first anniversary of the passing of Ogbuefi Akunne Nwokedi, a visionary leader and a founding member of Legacy 1995. His unwavering dedication to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul Catholic Church, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, to honor his memory and celebrate his significant contributions. The service was attended by a diverse gathering of well-wishers, colleagues, friends, and admirers, reflecting the broad impact of his work.

Among the dignitaries present were Mr. Taiye Olaniyi, the current President of Legacy 1995, and Mr. Adewale, the organization’s facility manager. Their presence underscored the deep respect and admiration that Mr. Nwokedi commanded within the organization.

During the service, a particularly poignant moment occurred when Mr. Olaniyi had a chance meeting with Mrs. Ilukwe, the wife of the individual after whom the Ilukwe building, a significant landmark preserved by Legacy 1995, is named. This encounter highlighted the interconnectedness of the organization’s history and the profound impact of its efforts.
